Davidson Shield & Zone Cup
Manjimup Rifle Range - 3rd May 2015
A strong contingent of shooters from across the South West DRA came together on 3rd May to compete for the Davidson Shield, the second inter-club team event on the SWDRA's team shooting agenda. The Manjimup Range was also the venue for the 2015 Inter Zone Cup shoot, which was held in conjunction with the Davidson Shield.
Threatening skies in the morning, along with gusty winds gave coaches and shooters alike a reasonable degree of difficulty, and scores recorded at the 300 and 500 yard ranges were somewhat depressed compared to the usual high scoring Manjimup Range usually affords. This was particularly noticeable in the dearth of centre bulls scored.
Manjimup quickly established a handy lead at the 300 yds, scoring 171.18, 14 points clear of second placed Bunbury Blue . The 500 yd match was also Manjimup's with a range score of 167.14, however Darkan's 166.15 and Bunbury's 164.11 made this range more competitive.
Shooting had barely begun following the lunch break when the weather closed in. Squally winds and rain, with the promise of more to come led to the 600 yd match being abandoned. However, in order to secure a result, and to allow the scores to be used alongside the other team events, it was decided that 600 yd scores would be calculated, using the average of the 300 and 500 yd scores already obtained.
The end result was a clear Off Rifle and Handicap total win to the home side. Manjimup retained the Davidson Shield with a maximum Handicap score of 525, followed by Bunbury Blue, Darken Blue and Busselton Red.
Manjimup also took out the 2015 Inter Zone Cup with a score of 605.51 from Bunbury on 579.35.
Top Off Rifle scores for the day were: George Wittorff 105.14, Mick Forsberg 103.12, Mark Milentis 102.12 and Denis Forsberg 102.9.
Top Handicap scores were owned by Bo Larsen 114, George Wittorff 107 and Al Trease 106.
A contingent of 10 F Open shooters from Busselton also shot the two ranges, firing 10 shot applications.
Ross Burton topped the day with a creditable 120.10, followed by Graham Oates on 118.11 and Kevin LeMay with 117.10.
