Easter Prize Meeting 2019
The Forty-five of the state’s top marksmen and women attended the Coolilup Rifle Range at Capel over the Easter weekend to compete in the South West’s Annual Open Rifle Championships.
Despite the threat of strong winds and rain, shooting commenced on Friday to compete for the Coolilup Cup, which is fired over 300, 500 and 600 metres.
Manjimup’s Mark Milentis with a score of 148 with 13 centre bulls eyes won the target rifle section from a possible 150. Denis Blechynden from Beverley won the F Standard section while Courtney Day from Busselton took out the F Open category. Shaun Stoffels from Bassendean Bellevue won the F/TR category.
Friday and Saturday scores covered all ranges from 300 to 600 metres, and marksmen competing in both the Service Rifle and Sporting/Hunting classes used those scores to make up their respective competition. Simenon McGorlick won the Sporting/Hunting class and Julian Davey took off the Service Rifle section.
Saturday and Sunday’s shoots progressed over seven ranges, from 300 to 900 metres. Despite a difficult mirage and cross winds, three records were recorded over the two days.
John Moore of Leonora won the Target Rifle section with a perfect score of 350/350, including 44 central bullseyes. Busselton’s Graham Oates also created a match record with a total of 418 from 420.
