BUNBURY BLUE WINS BOTH OFF RIFLE AND HANDICAP EVENTS
Manjimup and Darkan Share Annual Trophies
The final inter-club shoot for 2016 took place at the Manjimup Range instead of the customary Coolilup venue due to ongoing works at the Headquarters' Stop Butts. As a result the host club, Busselton, amended the program to have teams shoot twice at the 600yds and the final stage at 700yds rather than the customary 600, 700 and 800m.
Shooting began under leaden skies accompanied with what turned out to be increasingly tricky winds with a fickle fishtail and variable strengths. Bunbury Blue stole an inside run on the first range, scoring 168.11 with Manjimup second on 166.11. Possibles were scored by Manjimup's Mark Milentis (35.3) and Mick Forsberg, while Bunbury's Kevin Davidson topped the range with a 35.5, followed by Ian Reynolds on 35.3. A strong performance was also registered by Darkan's Kevin Joyce, who carded a 35.1.
The second 600yd stage was shot under similar conditions, with resultant similar scores being achieved. Despite posting no possibles on this range, honours went to Bunbury Blue with a score of 167.17, followed by Manjimup Red one point behind with Darkan putting in a strong bid just one further point down on 165.9. Milentis, Forsberg and Lex Jones (Darkan) were the only possibles scored here.
With rain threatening, shooting commenced on the newly repaired 700yd mound, but after only one or two shooters completed their details, the heavens opened up, causing that stage to be stopped, and finally abandoned. Match executive met, and the agreed decision was to average the two preceding range scores and allocate them for 700yds in order to achieve an outcome.
