Scott Shield & Zone Cup
26th June
Held at Darkan Rifle Range
Busselton Teams Best on the Day
Darkan Rifle Range was this year's venue for the Bunbury sponsored Scott Shield, which was shot simultaneously with the Association's Zone Cup.
Twenty eight shooters from the South West's four clubs competed in slightly overcast but rain free conditions. There was a constant light breeze breeze blowing mainly from right to left across the range which generally caused only minor variations to the wind readings of the coaches.
As has been the custom of late, Manjimup took a two point lead at the 300yds, with Darkan and Bunbury Blue both on 162 points. Notable at this range was the leading team's Mark Milentis who scored a 35.6.
The 500yd stage witnessed Darkan and Bunbury Blue both return a score of 168. Darken's 13 Centre bull count besting Bunbury Blue by 3 Centres. Seven possibles were recorded at this range, with Milentis and Mick Forsberg sharing the honours with 35.6 apiece.
600yds proved to be Darkan's. The team tally here was a creditable 171.15; 2 points ahead of Bunbury Blue's 169.12. Six possibles were scored.
Once the tally for the Scott Shield was complete, it transpired that Busselton Green won with a Handicap Score of 525. It is notable that while 525 is the maximum handicap score for this competition, the Busselton Green side actually broke their handicap by 8 points, coming in on 533. Darkan were placed second on 518 with Bunbury Blue in third place on 514.
