Coolilup Rifle Range - 9th July 2017
The Scott Shield was contested at the Coolilup Range on Sunday 9th July in near perfect conditions. Clear skies and light breezes welcomed teams from the four clubs comprising the South West DRA as they competed over 500, 600 and 700m.
The 500m range resulted in Darkan Blue taking the first stage with a score of 169.12, two points clear of second placed Manjimup. Outstanding scores of 35.6 were recorded by Bo Larsen of Manjimup and Darkan's Kevin Joyce on this range.
600m belonged to Manjimup with a score of 170.18, ahead of Darkan Blue on 166.14, then Busselton Red with 166.10. Manjimup's Mark Milentis took individual honours at this range with 35.5.
At this stage three shooters had recorded a double possible: Mark Milentis on 70.10, Busselton's Ken Sue with 70.7 and Bunbury's Kevin Davidson on 70.3.
The final range over 700m saw a spread of scores, punctuated with several cross fires. Darkan took range honours with 170.20 followed closely by Busselton Red with 170.16.
When the scores were tallied, Busselton Red ran out Handicap Winners, thus taking off the Scott Shield, with the maximum handicap score of 525, with Manjimup 4 points behind in second position, and Darkan Blue third with 520.
Top Off Rifle Team score was attained by Darkan Blue with a score of 505.46, with Manjimup Red in second place with 504.55 and Busselton Red third with 500.43.
Individual coached scores went to Mark Milentis of Manjimup with 105.14, followed by Busselton's Ken Sue with 105.11.

Because of the continued growth of F Class, especially within the Busselton club, a parallel team shoot for F Class was also conducted with two teams, each comprising six shooters. Individual shooting was the order of the day, with competitors arranged in two equal squads - The Oldies and Young Ones.
The Oldies ran out winners with a score of 1016.54 to the Young Ones 980.38. The Oldies each received a handsome trophy to mark the occasion while the Young Ones were awarded medals.
Possibles of 60 were scored at the 500m by Brad Day and Graham Oates, both with 60.7; Oates repeated the feat at 600m with a 60.5 while Bryce Day from the Young Ones delivered a creditable 60.3. 700m saw two possibles; Bryce Day's 60.4 nudging out Brad Day's 60.3.
The two top off rifle shooters on the day were Brad Day (179.16) and Bryce Day (176.9).
