SCOTT SHIELD
Darkan Rifle Range 28th June.
Because of the temporary closure of Bunbury's home range at Coolilup, the 2015 Scott Shield was held on the Darkan Range, and fired over 300, 500 and 600 yards. Thanks to Darkan Club and members for assisting by providing the range and preparing the targets for the event.
The Scott Shield began at 300yds amid clearing fog accompanied by 2 degree temperatures and slight cross-range breezes. Five possibles were recorded, with Robert Cuthbert of Darkan showing the way with a 35.6. Darkan's tally of 167.13 gave the home team a two point lead over Bunbury and Manjimup with Busselton a further four points behind.
The 500 yd range was shot under clear skies with a freshening and variable left to right wind, with the beginnings of a slight mirage to assist the coaches. Darkan extended their lead, scoring 169.9 compared to next best Manjimup on 164.14, while Busselton made up ground with a 162.9 followed by Bunbury Blue on 160.10. Manjimup's Mark Milentis topped the 500 with a 35.5.
The 600 yd match proved to be a tussle between Manjimup and Darkan. Both teams came home with 166 points apiece; Darkan taking honours with nine centre bulls to Manjimup's six.
Top Off Rifle team honours went to Darkan on 502.31, with Manjimup second followed by Busselton and then Bunbury. Top individual score on the day was shot by Bunbury's Kevin Davidson who was the only competitor to finish the day clear with 105.11. Davidson was also top Handicap shooter.
The Scott Shield, a handicap trophy, was won by Darkan, who repeated their 2013 performance. Darkan's handicap score of 523 was aa full 13 points clear of second placed Manjimup on 510, while Busselton and Bunbury followed with 508 and 496 respectively.
