SCOTT SHIELD
23 June - Coolilup Range
The 2013 Scott Shield took place under threatening weather conditions all day, finishing with a downpour that saw the final detail of the Bunbury Gold shoot wiped out. Despite the disappointment, the final outcome of the shoot was not affected.
The 500m stage belonged to Bunbury Blue with all members shooting consistently to post a team total of 173.18, just two points short of the possible for that range. Positions changed considerably at the 600m, when Darkan Blue top scored with 163.17 in what were increasingly difficult conditions. Coaches had to contend with strengthening winds which began swinging to the south west during the shoot. The final stage at 700m was shot in steady wind but with deteriorating light, with a thunder storm threatening. Bunbury Blue made the most of these conditions to take out honours with a 172.15 on the board.
Bunbury Blue took Off Rifle honours with a score of 504.47, just edging out Darkan Blue on 499.40, which was proved enough for Darkan to win the 2013 Scott Shield with a handicap score of 525, three points clear of Bunbury Blue in second place.
Individual coached off rifle scores generally reflected the conditions, however Manjimup's Mick Forsberg topped with an excellent 105.13, with Bunbury's Ian Reynolds second, scoring 104.13.
Shooting alongside the Scott Shield, F Class members from Busselton and Bunbury clubs conducted an individual competition. Top scorers being Brad Yates on 177.18 with Courtney Day second on 177.16.
