SCOTT SHIELD
Coolilup Range - 14 July
The Scott Shield was shot for on the Coolilup Range in glorious sunshine and with only a slight easterly wind and mirage. The competition was held over 500, 600 and 700m, and in keeping with the South West DRA's policy of inclusion, saw six teams competing with a range of discipline, including Target Rifle, F Standard, F Open Optical and Sporting/Hunting. To accommodate this mixture, the MCSI system of scoring was employed.
For the uninitiated, the MCSI is an acronym for Mixed Category Score Index, which is a scoring system used to allow different categories of full bore shooting in Australia to compete directly with each other. It enables scores from any of Target Rifle (TR), F-Class Standard (FS), F/TR Class (FT), and F-Class Open (FO) to be converted to a common score index (MCSI) so that they can be compared equitably regardless of the differences in allowed equipment specifications.
A wonderful day was enjoyed by all, with morning tea served on the range between the first two ranges, and a first class lunch provided by our Bunbury RC supporters.
Winners on the day were the very strong Busselton Red Team, consisting of Club Captain Graham Oates, supported by fellow F Standard shooters Neil Yates and Doug Goldsworthy. They were backup up by F Open specialists Brad Day and Hugo Bunk.
The team placings, using MCSI scoring were:
1. Busselton Gold 1026.421
2. Manjimup 999.707
3. Bunbury Blue 974.780
4. Busselton Green 965.602
5. Busselton Red 955.754
6. Darkan (3-man) 607.614
Neil Yates had a field day, scoring the MCSI's top off rifle as well as top Handicap scorer.
"Real time" scores worth mentioning were:
Target Rifle: Rob Cuthbert (Darkan) 105.09 with team mate Kevin Joyce and Manjimup's Mark Milentis on 104.10
