Spencer Shield - 2016
Darkan Rifle Range - 3rd April
It proved to be a good choice by Darkan to move the Spencer Shield to April 3rd, as the home team repeated last year's result and took out a convincing win in this year's event.
The competition was shot under a brilliant blue sky with light winds blowing generally over the left shoulder, but with the occasional session of boiling mirage followed closely by a reversal of the flags. Consequently coaches were kept on their toes, with shooters trying to ignore the heat while on the mound.
The home side were out of the blocks early, scoring a strong 167.18 at the 300 yds in the fickle conditions, establishing a three point lead from Manjimup. Darkan repeated the lessons at the 500 yds, this time scoring 168.12, with both Bunbury and Manjimup a further two points behind.
Darkan completed a trifector at the 600, scoring 162.11, one point clear of Bunbury on 161.13 and Manjimup on 161.11.
It was a sound win to the home team, scoring a total 497.41 Off Rifle, and more importantly, taking off the Spencer Shield with a Handicap score of 519. Darkan were four Handicap points clear of Bunbury in second place, with Manjimup third on 504 and Busselton fourth on 490.
