Spencer Shield
Darkan Rifle Range - 19th March
The Spencer Shield, shot for at Darkan Rifle Range took place under a day of variable conditions. The opening 300yd stage was fired under a clear sky with a chilly light frontal breeze. Heavy clouds had appeared by the time the 500yd shoot got underway, and the wind was a moderate but variable left to right, causing coaches enough trouble to up the ante on concentration. The final 600yd stage saw clear skies once again, but on the ground a troublesome and tricky fishtailing left to frontal breeze, accompanied with an often contradictory mirage caused many coaches problems and their shooters some grief.
Scores on the day were generally depressed, evidenced by the fact that at 300 yds there were only 4 possibles, 3 at 500 yds and just one at the 600 yds.
The redoubtable Mick Forsberg of Manjimup once again showed his prowess under all conditions by scoring a masterly 105.8 to take off the individual score, capably assisted by team mate and coach Mark Milentis.
