Spencer Shield
Darkan Range - 9th May
The Darkan Range was a picture of verdant green, framed by a grey sky that provided shooters ideal sighting conditions for the whole of the Spencer Shield Team Shoot.
This team shoot, which opens the year's SWDRA's inter club team shoots was the first since 2019, following the cancellation of team shooting in 2020 due to COVID-19. As such, there were a few notable changes to the usual format. Competition was changed to 3 x 10 shot matches, as opposed to the previous format of 7 shot matches. In addition, due to shooter dissatisfaction with the results obtained by using the MCSI system of scoring, it was decided that a more simplistic approach would be used. Without using the MCSI system, the only other alternative of scoring composite teams was to adopt the "drop point" approach, whereby the team's total off rifle points dropped then had the team's total handicap subtracted. The team with the least Handicap points dropped on the day being deemed the Handicap winner.
There was general acceptance of this system. As a man once said... Keep it Simple, ie, use the KISS approach.
Manjimup team excelled on the day, taking off the Spencer Shield, as well as boasting the top TR shooter - Mick Forsberg with a creditable 150.18, and top F Standard shooter in Dave Robinson, who scored an excellent 179.17. including a 60.9 at the 500yd match.
Mick Forsberg topped the TR Off Rifle with a score of 150.18 as well at taking off the top Handicap score despite sitting on a handicap of zero.
Dave Robinson headed both the Off Rifle as well as Handicap scores for F Standard. His scores were O/R 179.17 and H'cap 183.17.
Despite being the only F TR shooter, Wayne Oldfield shot very well, including a 60.6 at 500yd to gain a handicap tally of 180.11.
