Triangular Team Shoot 2015
Shot concurrently with Lt Bunbury Cup
Clean Sweep to South West
Target Rifle and F Class teams from the Metropolitan, South West and Murray District Rifle Associations converged on the Yarloop Rifle Range on 7th June to vie for the prestigious Triangular Shield. Due to the temporary closure of the SWDRA's Coolilup Range, the 2015 Lt Bunbury Challenge Cup was shot concurrently with the Triangular. The Lt Bunbury is shot annually between the South West and Murray DRAs.
The three-range competition (300m, 600m and 800m) was shot in fine weather and benign conditions, making for relatively high scores on the day.
In Target Rifle, at the end of the 300m the South West team had established a 9 point lead over the Metropolitan side, with Murray Districts a further 9 points back. This trend continued at the 600m, with South West scoring 487.39 with Metropolitan gaining 479.41 and Murray on 469.31.
Metro were able to claw back one point at the final 800m range, scoring 478.35 compared to the South West's 477.39, with Murray on 473.32, however the final result was a convincing win to the South West, whose tally of 1449 with 116 centre bulls eyes was 16 points clear of the Metropolitan side with Murray in third place on 1409.103.
Top off rifle went to South West's Mark Milentis with an outstanding 150.23.
Accompanying the Triangular Shield is the John Bradshaw Shield, which is shot over the same distances and is awarded to the top district "Second Side". For the second successive year, the shield was awarded to South West DRA No2 side in an uncontested match. Notwithstanding, the South West's No2 nine shooter side scored a meritorious 1110.47.
Bridgett Milentis followed her father's example by top scoring for the team with 143.8 for the Bradshaw Shield.
Because of the current closure of Coolilup, as stated above, the Lt Bunbury for this year was decided on the day's scores. Consequently, the Lt Bunbury Challenge Cup was won by the South West, with Murray DRA second.
