The 2014 Davidson Shield, held at the Manjimup Range began at 300 yds amid lifting fog and calm conditions. Manjimup used home range knowledge to good effect by establishing a three point lead on Darkan, with Bunbury one point further back. Keith Sadler showed the way with a 35.6 after beginning with an ordinary bulls eye.
Scores picked up across the board at the 500 yds and Manjimup took out off rifle honours with a total of 170.21, which included a 35.6 from Mark Milentis. Bunbury gained second place with a 168.5, just pipping Darkan's finish of 165.9
Darkan's consistent scoring paid dividends at the 600 yds and the team took off the range with a well rounded 168.15. Three points separated the other three teams. Darkan's Rob Cuthbert topped this range with a 35.5, heading the other four shooters who also scored possibles.
In the final tally, Darkan won the Davidson Shield, with a handicapped score of 519 with Bunbury and Manjimup tied for second place on 514. Manjimup were clear leaders off rifle with a team score of 503.48 with Darkan next best with 498.34.
Bunbury's James Morrison shot exceedingly well, breaking his handicap by 4 points and in so doing, was top Handicap shooter on the day. Mark Milentis of Manjimup continued his good form of late, taking out off rifle honours with an excellent 105.11.
