Hornibrook Shield and Zone Cup
8 September - Coolilup Range
Light cross-range breezes, moderate temperatures and cloudy but fine weather combined to produce good shooting conditions for the Hornibrook Inter club team shoot at the Coolilup Range on September 8th. Hosted by the Busselton Rifle Club, South West DRA teams from Bunbury, Darkan and Manjimup competed in the seven shot matches over 600, 700 and 800 metres.
As has been the pattern over the last few seasons, the day was dominated by the strong Manjimup team, whose No1 team of five top scored at each of the three ranges, hence winning the off rifle aggregate as well as the handicap aggregate which determines the outcome of the Hornibrook Match.
Concurrent with the Hornibrook was 2013's Inter Zone Cup, which requires a ten man team, with scores from the day's matches to count. It was no surprise that Manjimup also won this event with an off rifle score of 977.76 (average 97.7) from Busselton on 915.40 (average 91.5).
Being the fourth and last interclub shoot of the season, the Annual Team and Individual trophies were also decided. These are:
Chas. Murray Trophy - Highest team off rifle aggregate for the season. This was won by Manjimup Red (2010.173) from Bunbury Blue (1969.132) with Darkan Blue (1947.116) third.
Harry Wunnenberg Trophy - Highest team handicap aggregate for the season. Darkan Blue (2055) won this event from Manjimup Red (2054) and Bunbury Blue (2053). The closeness of these results reflects the effectiveness of the handicap system employed for SWDRA team events.
The Rose/Sadler Trophy - For the highest coached individual off rifle score for the year was won by Manjimup's Mick Forsberg, with an excellent score of 416.41, reflecting an average score of 104.10/105.
The Clarrie Benson Shield - For the highest coached individual handicapped score for the year was awarded to Mark Milentis (417), also from Manjimup.
